The Gulf of Panzano is known for the presence of an impressive shipyard; however, the bathing and nature areas are also of significant importance. Already during the 20th century, the shipyard's corporate welfare provided for the construction of farmhouses and the Panzano Bagni establishments as bathing areas for its workers. Even today, the remains of the secessionist-style structures are visible from the sea. Since 2018, thanks to the completion of significant renovation works on the sandy shore, the beach of Marina Nova is once again accessible, swimmable and open to the public.
The ‘Cavana di Monfalcone’ Natura 2000 site extends from the shoreline adjacent to Marina Nova to the area beyond the Brancolo canal called Schiavetti. It is a unique and valuable wet resurgence system in connection with sea waters, rich in routes, accessible on foot, by bicycle and partly by canoe through the long canals. From Cavana, you can cycle to the ‘Foce dell'Isonzo’ Nature Reserve, the Mediterranean’s northernmost wetland area, characterised by a wide variety of natural environments and an extraordinary wealth of fauna.
