Next to the Duomo is the War Memorial. The memorial’s sculptural work is La Pietà, by Giovanni Battista Novelli, a group of six female figures gathered around Christ, inspired by the style of Giovanni Duprè, one of the leading Italian sculptors of the 19th century. The memorial dates back to the 1950s. La Pietà is sculpted in red Verona marble and placed in a triumphal arch of Karst stone on the vault of which the city emblem of the falcon is reproduced.
