Heart of the city centre, Via Sant’Ambrogio is one of the two main thoroughfares of medieval and Venetian Monfalcone, which preserves the typical architecture of porticoed buildings. In the 20th century, it was known as Via del Duomo, housing the church's main façade overlooking the old patriarchal palace. Along Via Sant’Ambrogio are the new Duomo, built in neo-romantic style between 1926 and 1929 by the architects Benigni and Leoni; the access passages to Piazza Falcone and Borsellino, with the remains of the ancient medieval walls; the reconstruction of the base of the Fountain with the Lion in Viale San Marco, damaged in 1910; the Palazzetto Veneto, an old palace built in 1400 as the seat of the Podestà, and on the façade of the Town Hall the commemorative plaque by Ferruccio Patuna dedicated to the inauguration of the Valentinis Canal. Across the Passo del Torrione, you can reach Corso del Popolo, where you will find the Teatro Comunale (Municipal Theatre) that hosts important theatre and music seasons.
