The area was landscaped in the 1930s during the renovation of Piazza Littorio (today Piazza della Repubblica) and the revision of the urban road system. In addition, the reconstruction of the Duomo on Via Rosselli made it necessary to connect the church and the main square. It was therefore decided to create an urban garden, to which projects by Benedetto Sgaravatti, Francesco Terzoni and Giovanni Boscarol responded. Work began in 1935, creating a garden with architectural forms typical of European gardens of the period, with a geometric arrangement of flowerbeds and the choice of evergreen plants. The circular fountain, the profile of which was envisaged in Terzoni's project, was inaugurated on 21 April 1938 to coincide with the Founding of Rome celebrations, to create that link between the new Italian Monfalcone and the Roman tradition that the Fascist regime looked to.
