The Church of San Nicolò

Built after the previous 14th-century building was demolished between 1650 and 1660, it suffered damage during the Great War and was restored in 1920.
The wooden altar, attributable to sculptor Giovanni Antonio Agostini from Udine, represents one of the most important examples of sculpture from the Carnic school in the region and dates back to the late 16th century. Structured on two levels, it has three niches in the lower part where St Nicholas, St Christopher and St John the Baptist statues are placed. The high altar in gilded wood is one of the foremost sculptural works in Monfalcone, while the single-nave layout with a quadrangular presbytery recalls Renaissance modules. Today, the church is part of the parish system of Saints Nicholas and Paul and is part of a complex built in the 1970s that includes the old Chiesa di San Nicolò, the new church, the rectory, indoor halls and outdoor space for parish activities.
