The Teatro Comunale (Municipal Theatre) is the result of the careful restoration of the old Cinema Teatro Azzurro, built between late 1929 and early 1930 on what was then Corso Vittorio Emanuele III, today Corso del Popolo. The big stage of the Teatro Azzurro allowed for the programming of theatrical performances of various kinds in addition to the regular film screenings. Renovation work began in May 1980. The inauguration took place on 17 May 1983, on the occasion of the festival organised on the centenary of the death of the great composer Richard Wagner. It offers the public essential and qualified drama and music seasons.
